Chivas Extra 13 Year Old is a blend of malt & grain whiskies that have been aged for at least 13 years in cask. The proportion of malt & grain whiskies is for another secret Chivas recipe. Its distinctiveness is based on the fact that part of the blend has been aged in oak casks that previously housed oloroso sherry, to which it owes, in large part, its distinctive aromatic characteristics. An intense nose, expressed with a particular complexity. The aromas of ripe red fruits blend beautifully with those of nuts and caramel, giving a sweet result. As time passes, the presence of cinnamon, cloves and wood becomes more prominent. The flavours of raisins, vanilla and caramel, as well as ripe pears in syrup, initially give a sweet impression, which then "disappears" to give way to a pleasantly bitter sensation of cocoa and almonds. The finish of Chivas Extra 13 is relatively short, but notes of orange, malt and, of course, the most vanilla of the cask, stand out in the aftertaste.
