Domaine Gaia S Wine Dry Red 0.75L (E)

In 1978, the Marquis Piero Antinori made history by introducing a new wine, the 1971 vintage Tignanello. The history of the subject lies in the great Tuscan winemaker's courageous decision to blend a small quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon, a variety foreign to the region, with the local Sangiovese. This move 'downgraded' Tignanello from a wine with a geographical indication (IGT) to a simple table wine. However, the wine was excellent. So excellent that the world trade called it Super Tuscan and let it be a table wine with no right to the indication of its geographical origin.
The story went from there. The other wine producers in the area saw the unique opportunity to improve the quality of their region and emulated the Marquisio. The Italian legislator, quick and astute, followed the trend by legislating accordingly. A new category, radiant and with high added value, was born! Super Tuscans... which for about forty years have been the engine of a whole wondrous wine region, where the key word is pluralism.

Early 2007. Kouchi of Nemea. GAIA, believing in the dynamics of the Nemea wine-growing zone, which should not be limited to a single variety, creates GAIA S. A new wine that combines our beloved Agiorgitiko with French Syrah. To "S" you can interpret it any way you wish. "S" for Syrah but also "S" for Super Nemea.
The grapes come from GAIA's privately owned vineyard in the semi-mountainous Kouchi of Nemea. GAIA S is aged for 12 months in 225lt French oak barrels from the Nevers and Allier forests of Central France and then, after bottling without filtration or any other treatment, it remains in the bottle for 5 months before being released to the market.
The result is a wine with a particularly deep red-violet color, aromas of great intensity, purity and complexity, where Agiorgitiko and Syrah complement each other with mutual respect. The structure is robust, exuberant and generous.
Under ideal conditions of preservation, at a temperature that will never exceed 12ο-14οC, GAIA S will continue for more than a decade to evolve towards an even more complex form.
Remember to pass the GAIA S in a wide decanting carafe at least half an hour before enjoying it. The new dimension that will emerge before you will delight you...!
