Unicum Bit Hungarian Herb Liquer 40% 0.7L Liqueur
Every country has its famous products. Like France has Champagne, Scotland has whisky, Mexico has tequila and our country has Ouzo. So Hungary has Tokay in wines and Unicum in drinks... A drink that is drunk at the end of the meal, as a digestive.
In a bright purple/brown colour, it was invented in the 17th century by the Zwack family and has been very popular since then, since with a few sips you had a feeling of warmth in the cold prolonged winter of Hungary... The legend around Unicum says that it is a "medicine drink" since it fixes stomach problems (helps digestion). As for its name, it is said to be due to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Joseph II who, when he first tasted it, exclaimed "Das ist ein UNIKUM" meaning "This is unique!"
It is made from 40 different herbs and has a distinctive herbal bitter note that characterizes it. It is drunk on its own as its strong characteristics do not help it to be mixed with other drinks in cocktails. But why would anyone want to alter its unique taste?
